10 Easy Steps to Strengthen Security
Every explosives storage magazine must meet ATF specifications to ensure the security of its contents and the safety of those who work in and around it. While these specifications are required by law, they should only be considered the minimum requirements. There are a number of additional layers of security that are essential to help fortify the magazine and secure its contents.
The ATF, in partnership with the IME and ISEE, has outlined ten voluntary measures which maximize the security of stored explosives. Some or all of these measures may already be implemented at your facility, however it is a good idea to review this list on an annual or biannual basis to ensure essential security protocols are being exercised, and update or add new protocols where necessary.
Simple procedures to secure your keys or storage site may seem like common sense, but it makes no sense to neglect these small steps which can have a large impact on security. You can read about all ten security measures on the Explosives Safety and Security page of the ATF website.
