Portable magazines provide safe and secure Type 2 storage of military ammunition and explosives (A&E). They are custom manufactured to meet your specific mission objectives and available in sizes ranging from 8 sq. ft. to 5,000 sq. ft. with a wide range of configurations.
These portable magazines meet or exceed DoD specifications and offer rapid deployment. They are manufactured with continuously welded 1/4” steel, resulting in a magazine that has proven to withstand extreme climates and battle conditions for decades with little or no maintenance.
SME’s Ensure Complete Compliance
Armag manufactures portable magazines to specification NSWC 3046-93-1 under a federal contract with the Naval Surface Warfare Center at Indian Head Maryland (NSWC IHD). NSWC IHD has full time technical Subject Matter Experts (SME) stationed at Armag to ensure strict adherence to engineered drawings in compliance with physical security and explosives safety regulations.
Multiplex Magazines
Portable magazines over 700 sq. ft. are built in multiple sections which bolt together. These Multiplex Magazines allow pre-engineered construction for larger storage facilities, up to 5,000 sq. ft. The Multiplex utilizes a proprietary truss system that allows the interior space to be clear spanning, without the need for support columns. Multiplex sections are bolted together on site, allowing for rapid installation.
We work with each individual customer to identify and support the capacity requirements for their specific application.
NSWC IHD will certify that your portable magazine is built to specification NSWC-3046-93-1.
Regulations
Portable magazines constructed to NSWC 3046-93-1 are approved for storage of A&E in accordance with the following regulations:
- DoD 5100.76M
- DOD5100.76M_AFMAN31.101
- AR 190-11
- OPNAVINST 5530.13D
- MCO 5530.14A
- DoD 6055.09M – sited as above ground magazines
Additionally, these magazines meet or exceed:
- UL 752 Level 5
- UL 752 Level 8 (with modifications)

Armag Corporation is the only recipient of the single award IDIQ (N0017422D0031) through NSWC IH EOD Technology Center.
