In the 1950’s Sam Nally established a mechanic
and fabrication shop in Bardstown, Kentucky to support his many mining
and road building enterprises. The Sam Nally Shop (SNS) attracted fabricators
from around the local area and quickly made a name for itself by constructing
custom aggregate conveyor systems and bulk storage bins.
“We
learned long ago that what made our customers return to us was
our willingness to discuss their situation and sell them what
they need and not just what we want to sell them.” -
Bob McDonald, Senior VP of Sales, Armag Corporation |
In 1969 a commercial blasting company executive
asked Albert Haydon and Bob McDonald of SNS to build an explosives storage
magazine to meet the requirements of a newly enacted federal regulation
regarding the storage of explosives. The regulations were a bit vague
but that first magazine was constructed and SNS, with a total workforce
of approximately 15 employees, received orders from contractors with
similar needs from around the Southeast U.S. Today both Mr. Haydon and
Mr. McDonald are members of senior management and their experience is
shared with our customers every day.
In the 1970’s the price of crude oil skyrocketed
and industry quickly increased its demand for Kentucky coal. This coal
boom brought with it a sharp increase in the demand for SNS storage
bins. Explosive storage magazine orders continued to arrive from contractors,
handlers of explosives, and mining operations on a weekly basis.
In
the 1980’s Sam Nally Shop was sold to Nally & Haydon Holdings,
a locally owned limestone mining and asphalt paving organization. Ownership
has remained in the same hands since that time. In 1999 the name Sam
Nally Shop was changed to Armag Corporation. The name Armag comes from
merging of the words ‘armor’ and ‘magazine.’
Construction of ‘armored storage magazines and bins’ is
all we do so the name Armag Corporation seemed a natural fit.
Armag Corporation and the U.S. military first began
its relationship in the late 1980’s. We were contacted by U.S.
Navy and developed a prototype portable weapons armory in the early
1990’s. At the same time Armag magazines were also used by the
Navy to develop several limited arc magazines. Our relationship to the
military continues today as we have a GSA contract for magazines and
an IDIQ contract for portable armories.
We have sold hundreds of magazines to the ATF, TSA
(formerly FAA), U.S. Coast Guard and to various other branches of the
government.
Armag Corporation has built its reputation by listening
to the customer’s requests and constructing the finest quality
storage products in the industry. We have obtained our position by tending
to details and developing the most durable storage products in the industry
and we hope that you will give us the opportunity to earn your business.
